AEOX® AEGIX clincher track disc wheels blend unique asymmetrical aero shapes with the low rolling resistance of clincher tyres.
AeroCoach AEOX® AEGIX clincher track disc wheels are the result of over 2 years of CFD, wind tunnel and real world track testing to provide a lightweight, ultra stiff and aerodynamic package for track racing at the highest level.
AERODYNAMICS AND ROLLING RESISTANCE
The result of our extensive testing and prototyping process across computational fluid dynamics simulations, wind tunnel testing and real world track testing has resulted in a pair of discs which differ in shape between the front and back wheels, to account for the change in airflow characteristics at the front and back of the bike. Each disc is also asymmetric to account for the effect of drive side/non drive side airflow changes in the bankings as well as the straights on a velodrome. AEGIX clincher discs make best use of modern clincher tyres with lower rolling resistance than tubular tyres ( see our data here ).
Front and rear AEGIX clincher discs are designed to work optimally with 23-25mm tyres, and combined CdA/Crr comparisons of the front AEGIX disc and rear AEGIX disc against the competition can be found below.
In the graphs above the front AEGIX disc is a demonstrable advantage over the competition, as with cleaner airflow at the front of the bike there is more potential for aerodynamic improvement. The asymmetric shape provides more of a benefit as you move into the bankings, from 2-3deg yaw, but has no penalty compared with the competition from -1 to +1deg yaw angle in the straights.
The rear AEGIX clincher disc has a similar performance to the tubular AEGIX disc, but is marginally faster overall in terms of combined CdA & Crr. At the back of the bike the rear wheel is more shielded from the wind by the frame's seat tube and so differences between rear wheels are less than the front.
INSTALLATION
AEGIX clincher discs require no rim tape and have a hooked internal rim with a maximum pressure rating of 130psi. We recommend the use of latex inner tubes or TPU tubes, please see our Crr comparison between tubes here. The fastest tyre to use with an AEGIX clincher disc is an FMB/AeroCoach Pista Ultra 3000 24.5mm clincher, however other tyres can also be used, such as FMB/AeroCoach Pista Gold 3000 24.5mm, Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed 24mm or a Continental GP5000 TT 25mm. When screwing on the rear sprocket please ensure that all threads are engaged. We recommend using Dura Ace sprockets. Rear AEGIX clincher discs are 120mm spacing and use standard 15mm track nuts to attach in the dropouts. Front AEGIX clincher discs are available in both 12x100mm thru axle and also standard bolt on (for normal QR dropouts) using a 4mm allen key. Please note thru axles are not included. The rear AEGIX disc will not fit Cervélo T4s.
AEGIX discs have a removable carbon valve cover on the non drive side of each wheel.
